RDD Motorsports South Florida Report
RDD Motorsports caps off a successful opening at regional Rmax Challenge series as they head to the opening of the Pan Am Series

Dalton Sargeant
Deerfield Beach, FL – RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, competed in the opening round of the South Florida Rmax Challenge held at the Miami-Homestead Karting Complex just outside of Miami, Florida. The team brought three drivers to the event including junior standout Sebastian Ordonez along with Mini Max drivers Logan and Dalton Sargeant. Sunny and dry conditions on Saturday would give way to cloudy wet racing on Sunday, forcing all racers to develop a new game plan. The action was great from flag to flag as the regions best came together following the completion of the winter testing series.
In the Junior Rotax category, Ordonez would dominate the weekend double header action sweeping the Saturday racing program with a fast lap in qualifying to take pole, followed by the prefinal win and first place in the event final. Ordonez nearly repeated that stellar effort on Sunday taking second in qualifying and then the win in the prefinal and the top spot in the final. In two weeks time Ordonez will make his first Skip Barber Regional series start at Virginia International Raceway. Look for the talented 15-year-old to continue his transition from karts to cars through out 2010 as part of the RDD Motorsports Development Program.
In Rotax Mini Max, it was Dalton showing the way early on as he looked to match his teammates pace. On Saturday the talented 12-year-old would grab the pole position in qualifying and follow that with a first finish in the prefinal and the win in the final. Logan would take P2 in qualifying and finish the prefinal in the third spot. In the final Logan would lose contact with the leaders early and fall back to finish in the seventh spot as he struggled for pace.
On Sunday Dalton would grab pole in qualifying in the wet while Logan struggled again to cross in seventh. For the prefinal the RDD team would go to work looking to find what was hampering Logan’s forward progress. In the prefinal Dalton would cross in third while Logan still struggled back in seventh spot. For the final the RDD team rallied to find the mechanical problem on Logan’s kart and get him ready for the final. An exciting final saw Dalton cross in third while Logan, finding his pace, worked his way forward to fourth spot at the line.
“We really improved our overall rain setup. We actually don’t get to race very often in the rain here in Florida because most tracks don’t have drainage. When it rains hard, we have to go home,” comments Andre Serra, RDD Team owner. “Over the last couple of weeks we really worked hard and got things going better. Logan did a great job and is getting closer to his brother every time out.”
Up next for RDD Motorsports will this weekend as the team heads to Houston, Texas for the opening round of the Pan American Challenge. The new Rotax Series is attracting drivers from all over the country looking to get an invitation to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Italy. The RRD Motorsports team will head back to Las Vegas for the SuperNats late in the year.
