RDD Motorsports returns to Summer Shootout at Lowes Motorspeedway
South Florida-based racing team completes two intense weeks of racing covering the US East coast from FL to NC.
Deerfield Beach, FL – RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, wrapped up two very busy weeks of racing and testing as they continue to make big strides in both Speedway and Sprint kart racing. The team logged hundreds of miles as they completed a rigorous 14 days of racing, testing and driver development.
The team returned to Lowes Motor Speedway on Monday June 20th for round two of the 600 Racing Bandolero Summer Shootout. Still racing one driver short, two RDD Motorsports drivers, Logan Sargeant along with brother Dalton worked through Monday night practice to prepare for the Tuesday Night Summer Shootout program. As is tradition, after Monday night practice there is a rookie race. Dalton won the rookie race while Logan finished in fifth.
“It was great to see Dalton win the rookie,” comments RDD Motorsports team manager Andre Serra. “The Summer Shoot Series is very important to our program and the team is very excited about the pace we have seen in our drivers.”
Dalton and Logan ran in separate heat races as the field of over 35 cars was broken into three groups. Logan would finish 6th in his heat while Dalton would finish his heat race in third spot sending both drivers directly to the main event. In the 28 car feature race Logan would start in the 16th spot while Dalton would start in ninth place. Early in the feature Dalton would get caught in a spin and regain at the back of the field. He steadily worked his way forward to finish in 20th spot. Logan had a strong start and work past several incidents to sit in the sixth spot late in the race. He was able to close in on fifth in the final laps but had to settle for sixth and a good points scoring night.
The RDD motorsports team would return to Homestead Karting on Thursday and Friday to test the Kart Mini program. Both Dalton, Logan and Sebastian Ordonez would be joined by ex-Senior Rotax driver for RDD Gaby Chaves now driving on the Formula BMW Americas series and Fabio Orsolon, 2009 FWT Rotax Senior Champion. The team and its drivers completed over 400 laps adding up to 287 miles of testing.
The RDD Motorsports Team would be back in Charlotte at Lowes Motor Speedway for the third round for the Summer Shoot out this past Monday and Tuesday. In the Monday night Rookie race Logan would finish 3rd, edging closer to that elusive win. Once a driver wins the rookie race he or she is not eligible to compete again.
The RDD team really stepped it up for round three action. Both Logan and Dalton would win their respective heat races and transfer directly to the main event. In the main Logan would start on pole and Dalton would start outside row two in fourth spot. From the drop of the green both RDD drivers set the pace and worked through traffic. At the checkered flag it would be Dalton taking second place with Logan on his bumper to take third putting both RDD drivers nicely in the top three.
With no time to celebrate, the team would head out on Wednesday to test at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The team was preparing for the Thursday Night Thunder Series. The team would see the return of Garrett Sargeant to competition. Dalton would retire from third spot while Logan crossed in 6th with Garrett making a nice return to finish 7th.
With still more miles to cover the team set out for Orange County Speedway in Noerth Carolina to compete in the 3/8 mile oval. Dalton would take the win in the 24 car field with Logan coming in 6th and Garett slipping into the top ten with a 9th place finish.
“It has been an amazing two weeks of racing and testing,” states Serra. “The entire team is happy to have Garrett back in the car and he is getting up to speed quickly. We are really close to that first feature win we can taste it.”
The Kart Mini/RDD Motorsports Team will return to Lowes for Round four for the Summer Shootout Series.
